Sunflower Natural Dye & Weaving Studio

The Sunflower Association was originally founded as a family art gallery by Artist Maung Maung Thein. His daughter, Phyu Ei Thein, later expanded it into a social enterprise to showcase another kind of artist: the weaver.

She reintroduced natural dyeing methods and revived both traditional and innovative weaving patterns and techniques. The Sunflower Studio, once based on the shores of Inle Lake, employed graduates and collaborated with a network of regional weaving schools. Together with various studios, they have produced high-quality textiles and helped bring Myanmar weaving to an international audience. Phyu Ei Thein has shown remarkable leadership in promoting Myanmar textiles and supporting weavers across the country.

Now based in Yangon, she continues to produce high-quality textiles, conduct workshops, and train weavers nationwide.
