Thursday Nov 16 saw the release of a creative collaboration between Fauna & Flora International, Black Elephant Lacquer and Hla Day celebrating the wildlife of Indawgyi Lake region with a special edition lacquer collection created by Veronica Gritsenko.

Indawgyi lake is an important region that supports the livelihoods of some 50,000 people and is also home to a great diversity of mammals, water birds, fish and reptiles, many of which are endangered. It is therefore crucial that the area is managed sustainably for both people and biodiversity.

Taking inspiration from the region artist Veronica Gritsenko is helping to raise awareness through the unique eye of an artist. She has worked together with her team at Black Elephant Lacquer to dedicate a special collection to the endangered animals and species of the area.

Veronica is known for creating high quality lacquer and exquisite design application that expresses a unique perspective of Myanmar. There are many steps involved in creating high quality lacquer involving a large amount of time, patience and planning to ensure the sourcing, and creation process is done to the highest standard. This collection has been 9 months in the making.

When Veronica talks about her passion for protecting the world's natural resources and animals she can't help but making a comparison to her age old practice of lacquer making which is also in threat of extinction; Last week we sat down with Veronica to get a closer look at her process and how strongly it relies on nature, patience and precision.
